West Ashley Development Voted Down By City Council After Six years
Further Inaction by City Hall Delays West Ashley Progress
Charleston, SC – Clay Middleton, candidate for Mayor of Charleston, released this statement regarding City Council’s vote to further delay the West Ashley gateway development.
“It is ridiculous that City Hall can’t move on a development for West Ashley under the current leadership. 6 years and still nothing for the nearby residents, that corridor, and other parts of West Ashley.
West Ashley is full of beautiful neighborhoods and great communities; my wife, children, family and friends live among them. The reality is that planned and consistent improvements, shared use paths, beautification, and integration of service and amenities in West Ashley has been slow, non-existent in some areas, and outright ignored in others. Put simply, the city has not consistently invested in improving the quality of life and capturing the vibrant spirit of the largest part of our beloved city. This long overdue work is not right, fair, nor equitable.
We can’t afford to continue going down this path. We deserve better and we can do better. As mayor, I will work with residents, Council, the private sector, and other allied organizations to bring about the needed economic development, mobility, and enhanced quality of life that West Ashley has long waited for.”
