Middleton to Order Police Stand Down to Protect Women and Doctors

Middleton Wants Police to Focus on Violent Crime

Charleston, SC – Clay Middleton, candidate for Mayor of Charleston, vowed to protect women seeking healthcare services and doctors who perform them when he takes office. “I want you to hear this directly from me,” Middleton said. “As Mayor of Charleston I will order the Charleston Police Department to stand down on arresting women and doctors.”

A year after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a woman’s right to choose, South Carolina statehouse politicians passed one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. Women and the doctors who help them are in danger of being thrown in jail.
